Question: Why Does This oil painting Not Resonate With Viewers?
Punctuation aside, the above screenshot is the actual question I asked of the new CGPT platform. I took a painting that has never ben picked for a show, barely has any interests from potential buyers and is the only un acquired piece from the first release. Below is the response from the AI engine and it confirms some of my suspicions.
All the points below are pretty solid assessments, especially point three and four. It gets a few things wrong, but then, does it? It is not collage or printed type ...those are hand rendered elements, but if the net total is that it LOOKS like those things, then what's the difference? I guess sold vs not sold. Ha. I could go on, but you get it. Check out how AI lets me know what I knew, but maybe could not admit. This assessment also makes me reconsider a post from 2 years ago.

Art appreciation is subjective, and there are various reasons why an artwork might not resonate with viewers. Analyzing the image you provided, here are some possible reasons:
1. Ambiguity of Subject:
The obscured faces with the "XXX" and white bars can be interpreted in multiple ways. This level of ambiguity might leave viewers unsure about the message or emotion they should derive from it.
2. Overlapping Elements:
The collage-like style, while interesting, might be overwhelming for some. There's a lot happening in the painting – from the intricate patterns to the printed texts. This could make it difficult for viewers to focus or find a point of connection.
3. Emotive Content:
The obscured faces can evoke a sense of mystery, but they can also be perceived as unsettling or even alienating to some viewers.
4. Color Palette:
While vibrant and rich, the palette is diverse, and the contrast between certain elements (like the bright reds against muted backgrounds) might not appeal to everyone.
5. Cultural or Personal Relevance:
Art often resonates when it taps into personal or cultural experiences or emotions. If viewers don't find a relatable element in the painting, they might not connect with it.
6. Subject Matter:
Themes of anonymity, identity, or societal observations (suggested by the obscured faces and the collaged elements) might not appeal to or be understood by all viewers.
7. Artistic Preferences
Some viewers might prefer more traditional, clear-cut subjects or styles, and the modern, abstract nature of this painting might not align with their tastes.
Remember, art is deeply personal both for the creator and the viewer. What doesn't resonate with one group of people might be deeply impactful for another. It's essential to understand the target audience and the context in which the artwork is displayed.

In the end, I will re work this painting. I have more MMM Billet's and about 5 other concepts sketched out. Maybe I chose the wrong one while in production? Maybe the language of BBN was so new, I did not have a gauge of what would really work? Maybe sometimes shit just sucks and you gotta do it again? Let's see where this new effort is, in six months.
